  • 1 cup gram flour (besan)

  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon ajwain

  • Salt to taste

  • Water (as needed to make a smooth batter)


  • 2 medium potatoes, boiled and mashed

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 1 green chili, finely chopped

  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste

  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder


  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder

  • Salt to taste

  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped

  • 1 tablespoon oil


  • 4 slices of whole wheat bread


  • oil for cooking

Preparation

  1. Instructions:

    • In a mixing bowl, combine gram flour, turmeric powder, red chili powder, ajwain, and salt.

    • Add water gradually to make a smooth, lump-free batter. The consistency should be thick enough to coat the bread slices.


    • Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan.

    • Add finely chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.

    • Add ginger-garlic paste and green chili . Sauté for another minute.

    • Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.

    • Add the mashed potatoes and mix thoroughly.

    • Add garam masala powder and chopped fresh coriander leaves. Mix well and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.


    • Take a slice of whole wheat bread and spread a generous amount of the potato filling on one side. Cover it with another slice of bread, forming a sandwich.

    • Cut the sandwich diagonally to form two triangles.


    • Heat a tawa on medium heat and lightly grease it with a few drops of oil.

    • Dip each bread triangle into the gram flour batter, ensuring it is well coated.

    • Place the coated bread triangles on the hot tawa.

    • Cook on each side until golden brown and crispy, adding a few drops of oil as needed to prevent sticking.


    • Serve the healthy bread pakoras hot with mint-coriander chutney.
